CPI(M) has a visitor: World’s richest Indian

New Delhi, October 11: India’s largest proletariat party had some high-profile capitalists as visitors today. The world’s richest Indian and steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal met CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat at the party’s headquarters to brief the Left leader about his business plans in India.

‘‘He wanted to tell me what all he was doing and wanted to talk to me about it,’’ Karat told The Indian Express. Mittal told Karat about the greenfield steel plant he is setting up in Jharkhand, his deal with ONGC and his operations in China.

Later, another UK-based steel tycoon, Lord Swraj Paul, led an all-party British delegation of MPs to the AKG Bhavan. The MPs wanted to learn about the CMP and the mechanics of the UPA-Left coordination panel. ‘‘They wanted to know about the way the government works and how we interact with them,’’ Karat said.

Said Lord Paul: ‘‘They (the Left) are an important partner of the government and we wanted to have their views. We were delighted to meet Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury. We thought they had a very positive view on issues.’’
