WBAI Multiple Choice Quiz

by Steve Brown (member, WBAI Local Station Board)

1. When asked about the recent staff layoffs at WBAI, did Program director Bernard White say they were caused by ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?

2. When asked why the station was unable to meet its budget or pay its bills, did Program Director Bernard White say that this was caused by ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?

3. When asked why his political support group ¨C the Justice & Unity Caucus ¨C engage in race-baiting and initiate racially motivated physical attacks upon other staff members and listeners, did Program Director Bernard White say these incidents were caused by ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?

4. Both KPFK and WBAI always used to be able to raise $1 million during the standard 18-day marathon. KPFK is still able to raise this amount (sometimes in only 14 days). But for the last 3 years (and 12 marathons), WBAI has been unable to raise this amount in 18 days or even in as many as 30 days, when marathons have been forced to drag on for nearly an entire month. Did Program Director Bernard White say this was caused by ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?

5. When asked how he explained the large (and rapid) drop-off in WBAI¡¯s fundraising revenues during his tenure as program director (from an average of $60,000 per day to as low as $19,000 per day), did Bernard White say this drop-off was a sign of listener dissatisfaction with his programs and policies ¨C or the result of ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?

6. When confronted by Arbitron ratings showing that WBAI listenership had dropped by as much as 60% between Spring 2004 and Spring 2005, did Program Director Bernard White say this was because thousands of listeners had deserted the station in protest over his treatment of popular producers like Mike Feder, Gary Null, and Robert Knight ¨C or because of ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?

7. When asked why WBAI could not meet its bills or pay its staff, did Program Director Bernard White say this was because he himself had personally persuaded the PNB to accept a 2005 budget based on phantom revenues that (he knew) were more than half-a-million dollars higher than we could ever raise ¨C or because of ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?

8. On a recent Report to the Listeners, when explaining why the station was short of money, Program Director Bernard White did not say this was because of ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB. He said it was because expenses had risen since ¡°we now had the burden of paying for the cost of LSB meetings.¡± But the ¡°burden¡± of LSB meetings was only $3,000 last year. So the question is: Did the $3,000 ¡°burden¡± of LSB meetings blow itself up into WBAI¡¯s half-a-million-dollar shortfall ¨C because of ¡õ sunspots ¡õ cointelpro activity or ¡õ pressure from white racists on the LSB?
