Who said they "turned"? I don't know whether Judge Posner was ever left wing. He was right wing quite early -- although his Economics & Law theory is sort of an inverted Marxism -- it's basically historical materialism with the value signs reversed.

I don't know anything about Judge Boudin.

Btw the evidence is that, despite the stereotypes of conservative kids rebelling against radical parents, the studies are pretty consistent that kids are generally pretty much in the ballpark of their parent's politics.
