Doug:

...why do we posture so much about protecting children, while half the movies Hollywood produces are sanguinary orgies, as is U.S. foreign policy?

==============

Precisely.

After re-reading my post, I noticed how easy it would be for someone (like the dem-tastic Nathan N.) to conclude I harbored sympathy for the goals of folks who pour energy into shielding children from virtual violence by banning games.

I don't.

I do understand the various motivations (fretting parents for atmospheric safety, politicians for the easy, televisable target, culture guardians of the left and right for whatever the hell it is they want, etc.) but I think it's a wasted and mis-directed effort which, in the end, will only result in yet another law that produces unwanted -- and perhaps, mostly predictable -- consequences that include everything except the supposed protection of wee minds.

.d.
