Veterans For Peace 2000th Military Death Prayer Service

Press Release

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY VETERANS FOR PEACE AND THE SHIAWASSEE PROGRESSIVE ARE CALLING ALL PEOPLE OF FAITH TOGETHER TO PRAY FOR AN END TO THE IRAQ WAR LOSSES AS ANOTHER MILESTONE PASSES

1,992 U.S. Military Deaths as of Today (10/21/05)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 22, 2005

Contact: Tom Ford, Shiawassee County Veterans For Peace 989-723-5319, (fordhome at shianet.org) for more info or if you would like to help.

Within days a tragic milestone of 2,000 US soldiers killed in Iraq will bring Owosso area people together at Fayette Square at the corner of Washington and Oliver Streets

WHAT: A Prayer Service in Remembrance of the Human, Material and Spiritual Losses Caused by Bush’s War

WHEN: Gathering at 6:00 pm on the day after the 2000th US casualty is announced. (watch and listen for the news reports)

WHERE: Fayette Square at the corner of Washington and Oliver Streets

WHO: Called by Veterans For Peace, The Shiawassee Progressive and others seeking peace and justice in an ever-increasing unpeaceful and unjust world.

Without knowing which day this milestone will be crossed, your friends and neighbors are making the necessary preparations and raising awareness about the event in order to recognize and remember the many losses experienced throughout the Bush’s War. The event will coincide with at least 199 other events organized nationally by the American Friends Service Committee and Sponsored by the Gold Star Families for Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Military Families Speak Out and Veterans For peace

With public support for Bush’s War in Iraq at an all time low and a growing majority of Americans who see the war as a mistake that has no military solution, the death of the 2000th US soldier stands as a grim reminder to the countless losses, both military and civilian, experienced throughout the war.

The public action will focus on recognizing and remembering the families whose lives have been changed forever in the wake of a death or debilitating injury due to the war. In addition, the financial costs and misdirection of public funds will be meaningfully remembered at the event.

Monetary donations will be collected at the public action to assist military families and veterans who have been injured in the Iraq War, for the Iraqi people and the rebuilding of Iraq.

The moneys will be given to Military Families Speak Out (http://www.mfso.org/), Gold Star Families for Peace (http://www.gsfp.org/) and Iraq Veterans Against the War (http://www.ivaw.net/).
