1.[Various groups have scheduled the following vigils] Today the tragic number of 2000 U.S. deaths in the Iraq War. More than 15,000 Americans have been wounded, scores of journalists have been killed and - equally to be mourned - tens of thousands of Iraqis - innocent children, women, men. Join one of these Memorial events on Wednesday, October 26 to register your protest at this needless suffering and death. Dress warm. Bring signs. NOON - downtown Detroit - Federal Building at Michigan Ave and Cass. EVENING - Bring flashlights or candles 6:00 pm Livonia - Veterans Memorial at Farmington Road and Five Mile Rd 6:00 pm Grosse Pointe -- at Kercheval and St. Clair (2 blocks from Cadieux) 7:30 pm Royal Oak - at Woodward Ave and 11 Mile Rd - St. John's Episcopal Church
2. Friday evening, Oct. 28, at 7:30 PM, hear Julie Beutel, the featured performer for a fundraising concert for FAME, (Finding Alternatives to Military Enlistment).
This concert will happen at the Unitarian Church on the corner of Cass and Forest, near Wayne State University. The cost is sliding scale $10 - $20, or pay whatever you can.
