Another sign that the neoliberal disease among economists is, finally, passing. Outside the US & UK, at least. john mage

A political economy society is founded to oppose neoliberalism

In order to challenge "neoliberalism and all the reforms of imperialism", but also to challenge elected governments who promised changes but ended up imposing neoliberal policies, more than 200 economists yesterday at University City [in Mexico City] founded the Latin American Society of Political Economy and Critical Thought. "This is not merely to content ourselves with an academic group of specialists of the same profession. This is a political association to propose alternative policies of development. We are a group of investigators who wish to contribute along with the popular movements for the transformation of Latin America ", explained Reinhaldo Carcanholo, of Brazil. With him, the economists Alexander Valle, of Mexico; Ramon Sanchez, of Cuba; Jorge Marcini, of Argentina; Antonio Elías, of Uruguay; Win Dierckxsens, of Central America, and another to be named as representative of Chile, will govern the organization as colleagues.
