On Thu Sep 1, Wendy Lyon quoted an appalling case of double standards from the Guardian:

You certainly can't make the hypocrisy argument any clearer than that.

But on the hopeful side, the reason this is news is because for the first time people in Israel are questioning a double standard so deeply established that nobody even mentioned it before. And not only Tanya Reinhardt types are yelling about the hypocrisy, but the opinion leaders in Haaretz and on TV. Even Sharon's office is asking for a reversal:

So it's suddenly become a very mainstream scandal. And that's something. It may be one more sign that the Gaza withdrawal really did cause a cracking thaw in people's thinking.

Israel has the dubious honor of always making clear and explicit the hypocrisies that every other country shuts to one side. Every country in the world has a jaw-dropping double standard like this on terrorism. Certainly the US does. But only in Israel do these things make it to the level of explicit rulings. For better and for worse.
