But pesky ol' reality is more powerful still. Recently there have been two colossal immovable objects -- Iraq and the Katrina aftermath -- against which PR has proved anything but irresistable. The US has been in deep denial about all sorts of realities since Reagan's archhandler Michael Deaver introduced the epistemological straitjacket of the photo-op. But the accumulated toxicity of 25+ years of conservative control has ultimately had catastrophic foreign and domestic consequences too overwhelming to be obscured by clever camera angles.
