Amen. But I think there is more that this disaster can tell us in addition to the monumental incompetence of and criminality of the Bush regime, or even the bankruptcy of the conservative ideology (see my posting of Lakoff's article on that).

As you may have noticed, my modus operandi on this list is playing the devil's advocate rather than preaching to the choir. The criminality of the Bush regime is obvious to anyone on this list and does not need to be reiterated. This, however, is not true of the belief in infinite perfectability of human nature and social order - which imho is one of the most counterproductive and annoying delusions of the Left. Hence my posting. However, I would not express such ideas in a conversation with Repug supporters.
