The media are still serving power. It's just that power has shifted. Strategic and philosophical differences between a depraved and unbelievably reckless set of oligarchs and the merely predatory are now irreconcilable. Put more simply -- the level of incompetence and corruption Bush represents is a serious threat to everybody -- including the folks who write Williams check. With the media having abandoned the sinking ship, he's toast. Once the shakeout is over, the mainstream media -- having improved its tarnished image with this little exercise -- will go back to the usual business of capitalist cheerleading and sensationalist distraction.
