Honeywell reaches deal for cooperation with two Chinese universities

Honeywell, one of the world's top 500 companies by the Fortune Magazine, reached cooperation deals with two leading science schools in northwest China's Shaanxi Province Wednesday.

According to their agreements, Honeywell will carry out 10 aeronautic material research projects with the Xi'an Jiaotong University and Northwestern Polytechnical University, another strategic move in the provincial capital Xi'an following its investment in a joint venture company, the Xi'an System Sensor Electronics, in 1994.

Honeywell researchers will be heavily involved in these research projects that are designed to explore new means of cooperation with China in aernautical material, as both universities are well-grounded in this field, said James Cudd, an executive of the company's aerspace arm.

Shane Tedjarati, president of the Honeywell China Ltd., said the cooperation program in Xi'an represents Honeywell's concrete answer to the Chinese government's call for further development of the western region and boost economic development with science, technology and education.

He expected the abundant human resources in Xi'an and his company's state-of-the-art technologies and management know-how will create a win-win situation.

The Honeywell International Inc., a maker of aircraft parts and industrial manufacturing products, opened an office in Beijing in 1983, as one of the earliest transnational firms to enter China. To date, it has set up 20 offices and joint ventures in 13 Chinese cities and its annual sales on the Chinese mainland are 500 million US dollars.
