Coca Cola builds new bottling plant in southwest China city

Chongqing Coca-Cola Beverages Co., Ltd., a new bottling company, went into production Monday in Chongqing, the biggest industrial city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Chongqing Coca-Cola Beverages Co Ltd. is jointly financed by Kerry Beverages Service Ltd. of Hong Kong and Chengdu Huajin Group of Sichuan Province at a cost of 11.5 million US dollars.

Covering an area of 4.4 hectares, the new bottling plant is capable of turning out 100,000 tons of Coca Cola beverage product series annually, according to Paul Etchells, Division President, Coca-Cola (China) Beverages Ltd.

The new company also spent 1 million yuan (about 123,000 US dollars) in constructing a new museum showcasing the corporate culture of Coca Cola inside the new company.

Coca Cola Co., the world's largest beverages maker, first entered into China with two bottling plants built in Shanghai and Tianjin in 1927 but subsequently retreated for some five decades till the end of 1970s.

The multinaitonal returned to China shortly after the normalization of Sino-US diplomatic relations in 1979. It has so far built 29 bottling companies, plus 35 production workshops across China and occupies half the soft drink market share in the country.
