China, US to train 500 senior Chinese health officials
Chinese Ministry of Health, Beijing-based Qinghua University and US-based Harvard University on Tuesday signed a memorandum of intent on senior health executive training project.
"China not only needs excellent doctors, but also needs excellent health policy makers and qualified presidents of hospitals", said Health Minister Gao Qiang at the signing ceremony.
The development of Chinese public health service should rely on support and cooperation with the international society as well as China itself, Gao noted, adding that the project is hopefully a successful and fruitful one under the collaboration with the two distinguished universities.
"Harvard is anxious to be helpful in the project, which will help create open-minded and knowledgeable leaders in the health sector of China," said Barry Bloom, president of Harvard School of Public Health.
They are looking forward to creating a partnership and establishing the project in a bid to improve policy analyzing and implementation capacity among senior Chinese health officials and managers of health, Bloom said.
Qinghua University has trained nearly 1,000 health officials for the ministry since 2003, according to vice-president of the university Gong Ke.
The five-year project will hold two training courses every year which will enroll 500 senior health officials and administrative leaders.
