As more and more Chinese business are gaining foothold in Africa, Chinese business community in Zambia formed an association of Chinese-funded businesses in Zambia Sunday in Lusaka, the capital of the country.

"The foundation of the association under the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office of Chinese Embassy will enhance communications between the Chinese companies and the local society and promote the interactivity among Chinese enterprises as well," Zhang Shudong, the economic and commercial counselor said.

According to Zhang, more than 160 Chinese enterprises have so far come to Zambia to invest in a variety of fields such as mining, manufacturing, textile, telecommunication, and construction, with total investment up to 285 million US dollars.

China and Zambia are witnessing booming economic ties which not only brought wealth to the local society but also created tremendous job opportunities for local people, he said.

Chinese ambassador to Zambia Li Baodong urged Chinese businesses to observe local laws and customs and improve their interactions and communications with the local community.

"Chinese enterprises should bring not only investment to Zambia but also the friendship of the Chinese people to Zambian people," Li said.
