I agree with Nathan mostly about this. The *leftist* and *liberal* anti-war movements are ineffective, disempowering and stupid. This would be those movements led by UFPJ and ANSWER. Their only strategy is to schedule a protest every six months and hope that something happens in current events to make a protest in Washington visible. They haven't even had many protests in the past two years, so it's easy to point out that the left/liberal anti-war movement has had no effect on public opinion.

The other anti-war movements are doing some more inspirational stuff, such as the counter-recruitment work, but they remain pretty marginal too.

I'll be fair here and criticize the anarchist and anti-capitalist movements for their lack of organizing against the war and capitalism and whatever. You all may not see it here, but I've been very harsh towards my anarchist comrades who are lazy and short-sighted--their answer to ANSWER is to organize "breakaway" and "feeder" marches in conjunction with those depressing ANSWER/UFPJ demonstrations.

Yes, I should stop being a critic and organize something better, but that is hard to do without resources and against the climate of activist laziness that pervades the movements these days.

Chuck
