Greetings. New data show significant shifts have occurred in how the federal government enforced the law during the Bush Administration. From FY 2000 to FY 2004, federal prosecutions were up by over 31%.

The data, obtained by TRAC under the Freedom of Information Act, also document changes in the kinds of cases being brought to court: immigration and weapons prosecutions are climbing while white collar crime and drug prosecutions are sliding. The new data go through the end of March 2005 (the first half of FY 2005). Go to http://trac.syr.edu/tracreports/crim/136 for a short summary of the findings.
