Why should the assholes who make money off of serving alchol to yuppies from Vienna get some kind of free pass from anti-capitalist activists? Perhaps you can point out a cooperatively run business in Adams Morgan that was targeted by activists?" Look, what is the point in targeting middle class folks from Fairfax? How does that contribute to "smashing capitalism"? How does that stop the process of gentrification, also considering that pretty much every anarchist in DC is a refugee from the middle class enclaves of Montgomery County, Fairfax etc. There also seems to be this Pol Potish hatred running through certain anarchists of any kind of cultural pleasantry. There is a street of my neighborhood which yes is gentrifying. A couple of folks, DC native btw, decided to cash in and open a nice coffee shop with fancy sandwiches etc. Nice place. A couple of meathead anarchists decided to spray paint graffiti over their store front because only "yuppies" enjoy coffee shops. Considering that the coffee shop replaced a burned out grocery store, I'm interested in what these anarchist children thought was a better option. The problem is not with nice grocery stores, bars or coffee shops. It’s a question of how the wealth is shared and whether all residents can benefit from it and your activism in Arlington is a lot closer to really doing something about than throwing around Washington Post boxes on 18th st. I lived in capital starved Detroit for while where the only things in walking distance of me were windowless bars, liquor stores selling spoiled produce and strip clubs(which maybe some on this list would dig)so living in walking distance of Adams Morgan is an improvement to say the least. "Ah, you liberals. Always outraged over spraypainted grafitti. You want your social change without the actions that will be required to make it happen." Are you really serious? I'm sure others have commented on the extreme subjectivism of anarchism before so I'll spare it here. Hello? We've done all of those targets! But you seem to not understand a critical concept--we are not trying to lobby government to make changes. We are interested in taking direct action against capitalism and building a movement to make those changes. And those changes will happen how? --- Msg sent via VCCS WebMail
