Today we have a new one by John Norem making fun of Venezuela's new
>program on higher education via the Universidad Bolivariana,
which
>according to the article, is just an ideological joke
and not a new
>venue for actual college education. It seems written
by someone
>working for Condoleeza Rice or John
Bolton.

Really? If it's true, then maybe it deserves criticism. Or
maybe not.
Do you know for sure?

> Last month some one
made fun of Ferrnando Botero's art work on US
>Army torture in
Iraq.

Really? I missed that. (I'm not doubting you - I just missed
it.) How?

Doug

Comment: Well, the article on Venezuela titled "Venezuela School for
the Poor Controversial", carries gems such as :""Venezuela CARACAS, Venezuela -
Large block letters taped above the university
entrance spell out "Long Live
Socialism." Fliers in the halls promote a
workshop on Marxism, and posters
exalt the achievements of President
Hugo Chavez.

Critics say
Bolivarian University, named for independence hero Simon
Bolivar, puts more
emphasis on ideology than academics.

"We train our students ideologically
and politically," said Yamileth
Uzcategui Gonzalez, coordinator of political
and government studies. "To
tell the truth, every university trains
ideologically."

Comment: I think this speaks for itself. It is the neo-con regular
cant that Chavez is just an ideological trouble maker with a fake program of
development.

The posting on Botero's work Iraq and US torturers took place about 2-3
months ago actually, by some bilious guy called Michael Dawson who quit
the list soon after. It is not just a matter of being bilious but biliously
anti-left and, in this manner, Dawson is similar to Scott : they claim to defend
the left by attacking it.
