It's not in their interests, but they keep eating shit, as Shrub arrogantly tells applauding audiences of the conservative bourgeoisie at million dollar a plate dinners that they are his "base"... Mike B

On a more serious note, I think the problem is that the repugnants have developed a white identity politics. They sell themselves into office with this bogus image. The image is composed of various `hot button' issues, which really means they evoke various emotive troupes under the guise of upright moral stands (so-called social conservative) that have almost nothing to do with their material interests which are all designed to benefit business---the `bosses'. These material interests are all disguised as `good for the economy' which of course means they benefit capital at the expense of labor (the reactionary white base).

The Dubai ports deal was a great unmasking of the duplicity of this reactionary identity politics. On the other hand, the whole Congressional bruhawhaw over illegal immigrants pulls in the other direction, blaming the dispossion of the US labor on its most vulnerable sector---which is a direct consequence of favoring capital at the expense of the same white working class base.

The combination or simultaneous development of the Dubai ports deal and the criminalizing of illegal immigration has no rational basis at all. On the one hand the reactionaries sell off US infrastructure to the lowest capital bid, and on the other they criminalize the lowest labor bidders.

It seems to me this combination makes for a great opportunity to divide and destroy the repugnants. But leave it to the demicraps to try to make it all come out right---stabbing It's not in their interests, but they keep eating shit, as Shrub arrogantly tells applauding audiences of the conservative bourgeoisie at million dollar a plate dinners that they are his "base". themselves in the ass in the process. Ultimately, what it means is that both party's power base (money and business interest) is not the same as their voting base. The voting base is used as an illusion to mask their power base.
