this transcript of Hannity (colmes) is too long to cross post. The podcast of the debate with David Horowitz seemed pretty calm, and one would almost stop paying attention halfway through. It seems like Churchill meditated beforehand (I think at some public book talks he has winged it and didn't prepare notes), and Horowitz pretty much displayed the style he's shown before where he makes calm statements anyone would agree with about the first amendment, or how teachers should present the abortion debate by showing 'both' sides and then letting kids decide. But he punctuates this with craziness flareups every few minutes, delving into a rant about how Howard Zinn is a stalinist who would support mass killings. A debate with Hannity would totally score more points for Churchill, regardless of how it proceeds, because he couldn't have a worse public perception. His debate tour with Horowitz can only be good for his side unless they pull out something really unexpected.

This week there was a pretty strong grassroots conservative attack on a professor of evolutionary ecology at UTexas Eric Pianka, and he would be a person less politically equipped to lead a defense. Basically, someone wrote an article deliberately misinterpreting a comment on disease ecology that he made, and said that he endorsed widespread fatal disease spread among humans. The Discovery institute (which helped but didn't fund the lawsuit against UC Berkeley's paleomuseum website which had a link to religious groups which accept evolution), helped spread this article around, and then someone reported him to the FBI as a terrorist and he received a visit from them.
