GAIL (India) Ltd on Thursday said that it has been shortlisted by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Government of Ethiopia, to participate in the bidding process for exploration and development of Calub and Hilala gas field in Ogaden onland basin in Ethiopia.
In a statement issued here, the company said that it had responded to the notice published by Ethiopian Government in March for the development of two gas condensate fields, which are estimated to contain four trillion cubic feet of gas. GAIL had submitted its "Expression of Interest" together with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
As per the communication of pre-qualification received from Ethiopia, the bids are due for submission by June 10. The two gas fields on offer are remotely located and, therefore, commercial exploitation of gas reserves would need setting up of gas processing facilities and a long distance gas pipeline to reach the potential market.
