Wasn't that blown open in our youth by Two Guys? I think it's now just custom.
A custom I should point out that it cleaved to much more closely in secular Europe. Easter Weekend in Germany lasts 4 days! Even the holocaust museum is closed on Easter Monday. Not working is a popular ritual observance :o)
