The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, Vinashin, on April 20 signed a contract to build two 56,000 tonne cargo vessels for Japan's ITOCHU Corporation.
These are the first two ships among the series of 12 ships of 56,000 tonnes that Vinashin will build for ITOCHU.
This is the third biggest contract which Vinashin has signed with the world's leading shipbuilding countries.
Earlier, Vinashin won a contract to build 16 vessels of 53,000 tonnes for the UK and another contract to build container ships of 610 TEU for Germany. The ships have been built at Vinashin's Nam Trieu and Ha Long shipbuilding companies.
