NEW DELHI: Samsung has decided to set up a second plant to meet the growing demand in the market, R. Zutshi, Samsung India Deputy Managing Director, said here on Thursday
Interacting with media persons on the occasion of the launch of a slew of new products in the digital media segment, where it sells digital still cameras, camcorders, MP3 players and DVD players, Mr. Zutshi said the company was projecting a 70 per cent growth in the digital media business in 2006 and would be launching new products in the segment.
On future plans, Mr. Zutshi said the exact details on the new plant would be announced shortly.
On the investment pattern for the second plant, he said, "It will be a mix of local as well as from the parent.''
Samsung has so far invested $150 million in India and has its manufacturing facility at Noida in Uttar Pradesh. It now sells consumer electronics products, apart from being present in the telecommunications and IT segments.
A 100 per cent subsidiary of the $56.7 billion South Korean major Samsung Electronics, Samsung India reported a turnover of Rs. 6,300 crore in 2005. It hopes to register a 20 per cent growth in turnover in 2006.
While the consumer electronics division contributes as much as 54 per cent to the company's revenues in India, the balance comes from the telecom and IT divisions. It expects the overall sales in the TV segment to grow by 7-8 per cent to around ten million units.
Samsung India is the hub for Samsung's South-West Asia Regional operations and is expected to earn Rs. 150 crore from exports this year.
