It seems to me that Iran's possession of nuclear weapons is a necessary but not sufficient condition for mideast peace in the middle term. Iranian capacity (now) to resist aggression from the U.S. or its agent (Israel) or at least the illusion of that capacity in Washington is a necessary and perhaps sufficient condition for temporary peace. Long range -- that's anyone's guess.
That said, I continue to find it strange for any of us to rush either to endorse or to condemn policies or events which cannot conceivably be affected by our endorsement or the lack of it. It smacks too much either of mere spectatorship (I thoroughly endorse the pennant drive of the Detroit Tigers -- big deal) or of the officious moralism we associate with the label of Victorianism.
