US Deputy Chief of Mission Jonathan M Aloisi and State Securities Commission (SSC) Chairman Vu Bang opened the five-day Compliance, Inspetions, Examinations and Surveillance Training Programme for local officials on December 4.

The training, which is sponsored by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will cover best practices in enforcement and oversight of capital markets. The 45 Vietnamese participants include senior officials from the SSC, the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City stock exchanges, the National Assembly and State Inspectorate.

"Both the United States and Vietnam agree that creating a vibrant, growing capital market that can attract both local and international funding is an essential building block in Vietnam's strategic development plan," said Aloisi in his opening remarks.

"The United States wants Vietnam to succeed, and I am proud that experts from the United States are able to be here today to discuss our experience with their Vietnamese counterparts."

A memorandum of understanding was signed last year by representatives of the SSC and USAID that stipulates US experts will supply technical assistance for three to five years to help the local securities market develop. (VNA)
