Much more intriguing however is the Western media's reaction, particularly in the UK. It seems like a sort of poorly medicated hysteria -- barely under control and always scant moments away from a public outburst.
If you were naive enough to take seriously the grim pronouncements coming from the UK-based Guardian and the American Washington Post -- to cite two noisy examples -- you could be forgiven for imagining passionately freedom-loving Western journalists and a few Russian Putin haters as being all that stood between us and a Moscow-conjured abyss.
What's going on here?
Why are many (most?) Western news organizations so heavily invested in portraying Russia in the bleakest terms possible?
Cui bono?
