PROGRAM LEAD (TO BE READ LIVE BEFORE SEGMENT):
THE EXECUTION OF SADDAM HUSSEIN OCCURRED WITH ONLY A FEW HOURS NOTICE, AS IF DESIGNED TO AVOID REACTIONS AND POTENTIALLY LARGE PROTESTS.
THE FORMER IRAQI PRESIDENT, WHO HAD BEEN IN THE CUSTODY OF U.S. FORCES SINCE HIS CAPTURE, THREE YEARS AGO, WAS DELIVERED TO HIS ARCH ENEMIES, WITH NO CONSIDERATION FOR INTERNATIONAL LAW, AND PROMTLY PUT TO DEATH.
THE INTERNATIONAL ACTION CENTER AND SEVERAL ORGNAIZATIONS CALLED FOR AN EMERGENCY VIGIL IN TIMES SQUARE, SATURDAY AFTERNOON, TO PROTEST THE EXECUTION. A LARGE CROSS- SECTION OF THE MAIN STREAM MEDIA ARRIVED EVEN BEFORE THE START OF THE VIGIL. DESPITE THE STEALTH ATMOSPHERE, DOZENS OF DEDICATED ACTIVISTS SHOWED UP IN FRONT OF THE RECRUITING STATION. WBAI FRED NGUYEN GATHERED SOME OF THEIR WORDS AND FILED THIS REPORT:
