I think a lot of newspapers would fire a reporter who did that if he or she didn't ask for permission first. With permission, it would tell the editor that the reporter was a potential "problem" to be watched. Also, if you work at publishing elsewhere -- with or without a pseudonym -- it takes time away from what the editor considers to be your main job, hurting chances for promotion. JD
