[lbo-talk] American Leisure increasing?

Following study claims USAians have more, not less lesiure time. http://www.bos.frb.org/economic/wp/wp2006/wp0602.pdf

This totally smells like bullshit - especially the claim that even with housework and paid work women have more leisure. But the sources look good.

Are they playing with averages, counting underemployment and unemployment, as "lesiure"? They mention the possibility to sneer at it, but don't seem to do any empircal analysis to rebut it. At any rate I wonder if some of the economic gurus on this list have comments.

They do not seem to play games with commute time; they count travel and "work at home" as part of work.

Is there something wrong with the diaries they cite as a source?
