re. subject heading, hong kong cinema director peter chan told the authors of this really cool book called _city on fire_ that 'when you make a movie you can't really expect anything from the audience, people like it for different reasons, they see it at different levels, i don't get frustrated when people interpret my movies because when you've made a movie, your movie is not your movie anymore - it's theirs, they have their interpretation and you can't change it. You can't tell them "but that's not what i meant", you're not standing in front of the theatre trying to explain it, i get a lot of bonus things from reactions from people to my movies that i never even dreamed of, that i never even intended to put their, and those things become things that actually educate me for my next movie'... mh
