Since you seem to have unique possession of the Dictionary of Clear Thought and Speech, could you look this one up for me: what if a gang of fascist thugs tries to prevent, say, a black Leninist lawyer from Detroit from speaking by shouting him down? Should the cops intervene to allow him to speak? If they did, would that be state interference in the freedom of fascists to shout? If they didn't, is that state inaction interfering with freedom of speech?

Yours truly,

Confused in NYC

^^^^ CB; Speaking of fascists almost in Detroit, circa 1985, a Leninist City Council staff member wrote an opinion persuading a Councilmember to vote against giving a permit for neo-Nazis to march in Detroit, and a majority of Council voted against the permit. The opinion said that Nazis speech and organization is incitement to genocide per se as understood in the UN Convention Against Genocide and that "freedom" of Nazis speech is an absurdity. One of the swing votes against the permit was German-American Councilmember Rev. David Eberhard. The risk of being sued for violating the neo-Nazis constitutional rights was taken and won.

Of course, this probably did the neo-Nazis a favor as had they marched in Detroit there is some chance they would have faced a self-acting armed organization of the population from the hood.
