NN: >>A bill that funded health care through a sales tax couldn't end up being more regressive than an employer-funded system?<<

me: -a public health care system paid for with a sales tax at least -wouldn't be dividing-and-ruling people the way the employer-funded -system does currently.

NN:> Well, the current fad on the right and moderate wing is to mandate that everyone have the same insurance, much like auto insurance, and leave funding up to whatever. So everyone will end up with the same basic health insurance package mandated by the government, but leaving potentially massive economic burdens on working families if the government subsidies don't come through.

>But at least we'll end "divide and rule"? <

if there such massive economic burdens on workers, then there's still some divide and rule going on. But mandating uniform health insurance does seem a step toward single-payer. Perhaps an inadequate step, but a step forward. -- Jim Devine Bust Big Brother Bush!
