Berlet on Lerner:

>his statement below is perfectly reasonable. There is
>plenty of antisemitism in the U.S. political left,
>and knee jerk reactions against any use of the term
>are a real problem.

This is offensive rubbish. The Greens have protested war taxes, have singled out Halliburton and other US enablers of militarism, called for boycotts of US oil companies, and have called for an unconditional and imemdiate withdraw of the US army of occupation from Iraq. Why are they then not allowed to call for divestment from a country where 1) the US is instrumental in maintaining a profoundly unjust status quo, 2) where elements of the local left are sympathetic to divestment, and in some instances actively calling for it, and 3) where such a program is very likely to show results? Are the other examples cited by Lerner comparable? At all?

To applaud Lerner's casual poisoning of the well here is inappopriate.
