Middle-class bloggers prefer Hackett because they prefer style over substance (Hackett's a veteran) and the bloggers don't care about the working class. Hackett doesn't even approach Brown by the "electability" standard, since Brown had far more name recognition than Hackett.
Hackett was pissed that Brown had originally said he wasn't going to run, then changed his mind after Hackett had announced his candidacy. This is probably why Hackett went to the New York Times instead of Ohio papers to break this story, and to whine about being "betrayed." That's pretty bad form in my book. He could have done the sensible thing, endorsed Brown for the Senate and run for Congress again. He may have had a chance.
