The Home Going Memorial Service for Grandpa Al Lewis is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2006, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at The Riverside Church, located at 490 Riverside Drive, between 120th and 122nd Street, in New York City. The service will serve to enlighten and encourage other artists and people in prominent positions to use their voice as he did as a warrior in the struggle for peace and justice.
Grandpa attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, New York. As host of the public affairs radio program "Al Lewis Live" for over a decade, he was one of WBAI's most beloved personalities. During his life Grandpa entertained millions in acting roles from vaudeville to films; including in the role of Grandpa Munster. He championed reform of mandatory minimum drug and other laws, operated his own restaurant, provided an ongoing platform for veterans issues, ran for governor of New York State, stood in support of Mothers of the New York Disappeared, rode shot gun for WEB Dubois, scouted high school basket ball talent and helped expose corruption that led to mass incarceration of Blacks in Tulia, Texas. Grandpa was Mr. Peace and Justice in your face!
PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS NOTICE OF HIS SERVICE FAR AND WIDE!
