Cheney's from Wyoming, where the cowpuncher in Git Along Little
Dogies was bound. A phrase from the refrain of that song was used as
the title of a 1991 survey history of the American West that I highly
recommend. The author, Richard White, called the book It's Your
Misfortune and None of My Own: A New History of the American West
because he said the title phrase well describes the attitude of
people who have shaped and run the American West. People like Dick Cheney.
As I was walking one morning for pleasure
I spied a cowpuncher riding along
His hat was throwed back and his spurs were a-jingling
And as he approached he was singing this song
Whoopee ti yi yo, git along little dogies
It's your misfortune and none of my own
Whoopie ti yi yo, git along little dogies
You know that Wyoming will be your new home
