Wednesday, December 14, 2005 (Ahmedabad):
Three years after the Gujarat riots, eleven people have been sentenced to life imprisonment for their role in the carnage and killings that followed the burning of the Sabarmati Express.
The judgment was delivered by a fast-track court which was investigating the killing of eleven people who had taken shelter in a school in the village of Ajwana in the Panchmahals district.
Six women and two children were among those who had been killed by the rioting mob. The women were burnt alive and thrown into a well where they were left to die.
