Lock out declared in Toyota Kirloskar Motor factory

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Sunday declared an indefinite lock out of its unit in Bangalore in the wake of a wildcat strike by its employees demanding reinstatement of three of their dismissed colleagues in the factory.
The company, a joint venture between Kirloskar Group and Toyota Motor Corporation, declared indefinite lock out from 1330 hrs on Sunday, its General Manager (Corporate planning division) AR Shankar told said. The employees went on a snap strike from January 6.
Shankar said the dispute regarding dismissal of three of its employees pending an inquiry against them last year was now before the Deputy Labour Commissioner and Conciliation proceedings were under progress.
The Deputy Labour Commissioner is holding a meeting on Monday on the dispute where representatives of the management and the union will be present, he said.
"The management had no alternative but to declare a lock out indefinitely to ensure the safety of workers as well as the property of the company", Shankar said.
He alleged the workers not only went on strike but also prevented other workers who were working there and did not allow the people to go out, which affected movement of transportation and other things in the factory.
The company, which started commercial production of cars in 2000, has capacity to roll out 60,000 units per year and the target for this year was 45,000 units. It manufactures Innova and Corolla cars at its unit located in Bidadi on the city outskirts.
