1. Double or triple tax on the profits of the oil companies.
2. If you insist on putting a punitive sales tax on some commodity that has to
do with individual consumer use of petrol, make it a progressively higher tax
on more expensive cars. Eliminate taxes on vehicles which use renewable
resources.
3. If you're worried that your kids and their kids will inherit a planet dying
of global warming and you want to tax something to make things better, tax the
energy used to power industry which comes from carbon based fuels and use the
wealth to fund/kickstart renewable (non-nuclear) energy systems.
