But wait, it gets better. Part of the problem of the No Child Left Behind crap is that it uses up a lot of class time and education money on preparing for, taking, and evaluating these tests. When my daughter was in fifth grade, I volunteered to spend two hours a week doing poetry and drama with her class. The teacher was all for it. I started working with them and I spent about sixty hours of my time rewriting "Midsummer's Night's Dream" into a one-hour play that they could perform. Unfortunately, due to the huge amount of time needed for test preparation and test taking, we had to give up working on the play after the initial read-through.
