Cervantes' Don Quixote of La Mancha in Hindi and Tagore's poems in Spanish are to adorn bookshelves at the Kolkata Book Fair, where Spain is the theme country this year.
Spanish music and films will be joining in the festivities at the 12-day event beginning on January 25.
According to the Spanish Embassy here, Kolkatans will get the opportunity to buy the Hindi translation of Don Quixote by Prof. Vibha Maurya from the original Spanish, unlike the many previous translations from the English version.
Another book on the reception in India of Don Quixote, titled The Real Cultural Ambassador of Spain, by Prof. S P Ganguly will also be released during the fair, which will see the release of a Bengali translation of a Spanish poetry anthology.
Names of Cervantes and Picasso will sound in every corner of the Spanish Pavilion and there will be a special place for contemporary writers and artists who represent the most innovative and ground-breaking trends of the moment, says the embassy.
Best-selling Spanish author Javier Moro, the cousin of French writer Dominique Lapierre who co-authored Freedom at Midnight with American Larry Collins, will also be there at the fair.
Moro, who wrote It was Five past Midnight in Bhopal with Lapierre on the gas tragedy, will be promoting his newest book based on the love story between the Maharaja of Kapurthala and the Spanish dancer, Anita Delgado.
Experts from both Spain and India will be taking part in several round tables on different cultural and literary topics, such as poetry and contemporary narrative, the embassy said.
A Spanish Film Festival will be held at the Nandan auditorium and musicians from the Calcutta Chamber Orchestra will play solos of Spanish classical music every day for one hour at the Spanish pavilion.
