Can anyone tell me why there's a faction of feminists that utterly hate Susie Bright?
In reponse to something I wrote that was featured on a few feminist blogs, there is this contingent of feminists who think she's the evil incarnate.
Others are outraged that she writes for Playboy -- or used to.
Others seem to think it's odd that she has socialist roots. When I read her now, it's really clear that her thinking is shaped by socialist/marxist theories, though she's obviously not Yoshie in terms of the breadth of her interets.
If anyone can enlighten I'd appreciate it.
And Catherine, if you're reading, I'm afraid I was completely wrong. I thought Dworkin-influenced feminism (Susan Brownmiller, Robin Morgan, etc.) was a small fringe even in the US. Not at all. They seem to be a major strand outside academia.
Also, when I ask for quotes from Susie -- who supposedly claimed that Dworkin had had a nervou s break down and either made up the rape story or lied -- I was told that I was enforcing feminist purism or something.
And, lordy, the use of "The Patriarchy" and "The Patriarchy likes this" and "The Patriarchy hates that" and "The Patrarchy does XYZ" is freakin' alive and well! Strange!
