[lbo-talk] Secure intenet transactions....

They use an awful lot of words but the gist is simple...

Their "foolproof, revolutionary" method is really a quite well established and commonly used software technology: virtual machines.

A virtual machine - as the name implies - is a software simulacrum of a physical computing environment. You can install an operating system in this simulacrum and run it as if it were an (almost) fully functional machine.

For example, because of work constraints I'm forced to use Windows XP Pro. However, using virtual machine (VM) software I can host an Ubuntu Linux 'machine' within Windows. This allows me to handle suspicious files in a virtual Linux environment (the VM can share

the physical host's network hardware and acquire its own route to shared resources such as a local area network and the Internet).

Anyway, if you're curious, you can read about VM technology at Wikipedia:

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine>

Now about GreenBorder specifically...

PC Mag seems to love them:

And although I don't have any direct experience with their product, the fact they're deploying a VM to secure your machine (even if they hype it as a quantum leap) tells me they're doing - from a tech POV - precisely the right thing to protect all-too-vulnerable Windows boxes from malware.
