One way of gauging public opinion on an issue is browsing posts to forums
run by major media outlets. Unlike political niche outlets (such as
lbo-talk or The Nation, for example), major outlets tend to attract people
from various political camps, so these posts collectively offer a balance of
public opinions. The value of this method is a glimpse into unsolicited
views as framed by members of the public rather than by pundits or
researchers.
