i think the article is fake. i got half way through and read

the use of that kind of metaphor for 'criticized' is an AP recent phenomena... i think the AP is outsourcing political news reports to advertizing firms. i have a list of those sorts of colorful metaphors, all for anything related to criticism. the ad firms don't want any ugly, negative, uncolorful word phrasings appearing next to their tooth paste.
"miff", "slams", "a hard slap", "swipes", "pot shots",
"clash", "lashing out", "sliced" and "wrath"
these are just the ones that appeared on the one day i decided to keep track of it. i spent about 20 minutes on it. i'm not very efficient.
