Below is from John Kerry's email list. Yes, he still has one, post-2004. It's not hard to believe the GOP would at least hold their ground. As has been said many times here, the GOP's unpopularity does not translate to gains for the Dems or for anyone else. Sometimes it just translates to lower voter turnout in general, w/ disillusioned folks staying at home rather than going to the polls to vote Dem. Around the time of the original Enron scandal -- early 2002 -- didn't record numbers of folks say they'd join unions if given the chance, to protect themelves from greedy bosses? The AFl-CIO never capitalized on the sentiment. The Dems seem about to do the same.

Dear Friend,

This morning, Republicans are making laughable claims of momentum in the 2006 elections. They poured over $5 million dollars of national Republican money into a California special election to hold onto a seat that they've held since it was created by the GOP, for the GOP 15 years ago.

And they eked out a victory by 5,000 votes.

Their claims of momentum are as phony as their claims of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

[...]

Sincerely,

John Kerry
