I'm beginning to think that petro-fundamentalism isn't a late degeneration of the US Empire, it *is* this Empire, through and through. Here's everyone's favorite Dem pounding on the game culture:

Why are they so upset? Because game firms like Valve are creating best-selling games which show this:

No, that's not Barad-dur. It's City-17, a lightly fictionalized version of Baghdad in Valve's sci-fi game, where you step into the shoes of the galactic resistance against an interstellar neocolonialism (what the US Empire is doing to Iraq, is what the villainous Combine does to Earth).
