sometimes this can produce interesting things. the best example was Os Mutantes, a brazilian band that tried to do the beatles... but in my opinion ended up much different and better. then there's unintended mockery aspect...which is much better also. there's these chinese comics i think from the sixties trying to do superman and batman except superman was called Super White Conquerer...i saw some of it in this book i have. it was mocking superman unintentionally. the bad guys were staring at his crotch. the artwork was much better, more crude pop art style. don't knock it!!
